Tajikistan NOC renovates boarding school of sports for young athletes

With the direct support of Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan and President of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan, more than 350 teenage athletes will be able to live in refurbished comfort at the newly-renovated boarding school of sports in Dushanbe.

The opening ceremony of the building took place last Thursday, October 15, with Tajikistan Olympic Committee Secretary General Abdullozoda Muhammadsho, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Sport, Nazarzoda Rizo, and other officials in attendance.

The sports boarding school was established in 1972 and more than 350 teenagers from all over the country are currently in residence. It had been in urgent need of repair and, with the help of the International Olympic Committee, which approved a sum of US$100,000 as part of a cooperation agreement in October 2019, and by order of the Supreme Leader of the Nation, the sports facility was renovated.

In 2015, President Rahmon met IOC President Thomas Bach, who visited Tajikistan, and it was agreed at the time that help would be given in the construction of sports facilities in Tajikistan. The sports boarding school renovation is one of the many projects undertaken.

As part of the repair work, sports halls for national wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, boxing, sambo, bathrooms, coaches’ offices, dining room, roof and the exterior of the building were renovated.

The sports boarding school’s famous graduates include Olympic champion Dilshod Nazarov, Olympic medallists Rasul Bakiev and Mavzuna Chorieva.
